Mission To Create New World Record
Canadian vocalist Tara Mathew has travelled to England to raise money for the BBC Children In Need appeal by releasing her single ‘Christmas Present’, whilst at the same time attempting to create a new Guinness World record (which you can read about at the bottom of this page)!Tara has always been a gifted singer and during her teenage years won a number of respected music awards including 'Most Outstanding Jazz Soloist' as well as performing nationally on Canadian radio and TV on many occasions. But, the highlight of her early career was at the age of only 15 when she was chosen to sing the opening song to the 1997 Canada Games.
This led to many international performances including her joining a number of leading artists when she sang at the Pan-Am Games that was opened by Celine Dion.
She graduated with a Bmus in Applied Voice from Brandon, one of Canada's premier universities of music, with one of the highest marks awarded for voice in over 30 years and was immediately offered a place at the Salzburg Mozarteum in Austria, for which only 20 vocalists are selected worldwide each year.
Tara had a glittering career ahead, but in 2001 she felt called to help others and traded it all in for mission work. And for the next 5 years she was to live in India working with homeless and victims of AIDS & Leprosy.
Music was never far away and whilst in India she was asked to perform in Gloria Deo, which is Asia’s biggest, televised live Christmas concert and during that show she shared the stage with a line-up of international performers and Bollywood stars.
After returning to Canada in 2007, she signed up with UK, Exeter based Record Label, Media Ministries and was booked to perform again at the Gloria Deo Christmas shows in India & Sri-Lanka. Songs that were performed included a song that gained a great deal of popularity at these shows called ‘Christmas Present’, which has now been recorded, along with a video for release this Christmas with all of Tara’s royalties going to the BBC Children In Need Appeal.
